Alpaca Handling System

For a few months now, we have been trialing our alpaca handling pen, initiated by Helen, marketed by Agri-tech and produced by Bateman's. The pen we have designed has been incorporated into a whole alpaca handling system for all alpaca owners and is now available. Its launch at the British Alpaca Futurity has been a great success. Bespoke versions can also be made to suit individual breeders. See our new web page.

Proven Black Stud Males

Our solid black stud male, Wessex Mambo has produced numerous progeny this year at Alpaca Power. His cria are well covered with very fine, dense, medium crimp fleeces with long stable lengths. Mambo is matching the colour of the dam, and adding a shade in almost every case, giving us high quality cria of a known colour. Breeders are welcome to come and view his progeny. Mambo's cria, Chalford Phoebe has taken 1st place at the British Alpaca Futurity in a large Junior female class.

We will have more top quality studs standing at Alpaca Power this year.

Colostrum available

We can supply bottles of dry powdered alpaca colostrum. If you have a bottle in the cupboard, you may never need it, but it will save alot of worry if you do. Colostrum should be given within the first five hours of birth if the cria has not suckled. Contact us for advice on administration.

Workshops and Camelidynamics

Our series of courses and workshops during 2007 have proved very popular. The 2008 diary is now available.

Camelidynamics is always a great success with excellent reviews of the course and the hospitality. Julie Taylor-Brown will be here again during April and September with more dates to be added.

We invite all owners to come and learn a better way of handling and halter training their animals. These methods really will make your lives easier.

We are also holding regular 1 day workshops throughout the year. If you are thinking about getting alpacas, our Introduction day will give you all the information you need and there is always plenty of hands-on. Our husbandry workshops are very practical, giving new owners the confidence to look after their animals.

We know from experience that owners would often like additional help and practical experience to help them get started with their herd.

Some of our cria from 2007

Abigail, one of our home bred females had her first baby.

'Chalford Atomic' is already showing great promise.

All our cria have been born without incident and all are developing well. We will be using Camelibra Cria this year to help these youngsters achieve their full potential.

Another success story this year belongs to Cheeky. Cheeky has had some terrible luck over the last 3 years with her cria, but she is over the moon with her new baby boy, Caleb. He is a great looking lad with a big personality (like his Mum).

Lets hope she doesn't teach him to swim in the troughs........and wriggle under fences......and jump 3 foot 6..........! Too late....he's had the cabbages!!!

We are eagerly awaiting our new arrivals in 2008!
