At Alpaca Power, we are committed to the welfare and safe handling of our alpacas. Helen commissioned the original prototype pen (see below) to achieve a high level of safety and efficiency when treating our alpacas. Positioned centrally with holding pens surrounding it, we had developed a handling system which worked well within our barn.
Husbandry seems to be a constant worry for owners. Husbandry is straightforward with the right training and a safe set up. We regularly hear of alpaca owners 'struggling to get the husbandry done' and Bateman's, an established agricultural engineering company, agreed to develop a system.
This concept supports the handling methods of Camelidynamics and is not a replacement for effective handling. At no time is the pen a crush and we actively discourage the use of belly bands or other such restraints within the system. Alpacas and llamas who sit down when handled are doing it for a reason, usually because they are stressed!

These young lads are trying it out for the first time. (Once back out in the paddock they decided to run back into the barn for another go!)
Bespoke modifications of the handling pen, and indeed the whole system, can be made to order and is available as a left handed or right handed system to fit into existing farm layouts. A free 'on farm' design assessment is offered by Bateman's who would be pleased to discuss your needs. |
