We are thrilled with our North Devon Fleece Show results. This is at least as exciting as winning prize money and Championships 🙂
We sent 3 fleeces to the show this time; one junior black, an intermediate dark fawn and a black adult fleece.
We were very excited when we sheared Kole’s first fleece in May and I absolutely loved skirting it… He is a proper chunky fluffball !! His dam is Chalford Phoebe, a true black Champion female with excellent brightness and fleece density. Kole’s sire is MFI Kapow of Chalford. We knew, when we met Kapow’s sire, progeny and extended family that he would deliver for us, and he is! Those who have met Kapow will not be surprised to know he is passing on plenty of brightness, uniformity, handle and density to his progeny.
Chalford Kole’s junior black fleece created a bit of a ‘wow’ apparently and was ultimately awarded Judges Choice by Jo Bridge. We are especially proud of this given the quality of the entries in all colours and most age groups.. and Kole is of course, black! This fleece scored highly on all points. We don’t believe a black fleece has been awarded this accolade before…
Jo Bridge on Kole’s fleece – ‘Very good brightness (Wow!) Pleasing to see lack of white fibres’
Our second black entry was Chalford Paige in the Adult Black class. Although not weighing as much, Paige’s fleece received very similar scores otherwise, despite being pregnant throughout the growth of this, her third fleece. Interesting as her sire is unrelated… and brown!
Chalford Caramel Sky’s Intermediate Fleece was awarded 2nd Place and we were pleased with her scores. We are sure she will do her new owner proud when she goes to her new home (with her rosette) later this year.
Sire: Wellground The Ferryman (fawn)
Dam: Chalford Jasmine (black)
It was also great to see ‘well skirted’ in our comments 🙂 Thank you to the Judge, Jo Bridge and Organiser, Sue Chitty and all those involved for your hard work and dedication.
