Wellground the Ferryman – Proven herd sire

Wellground The Ferryman is now SOLD

We are offering Wellground The Ferryman for sale as we introduce another black male to the stud team. A proven male with progeny in most colours on the ground, we are confident The Ferryman will provide his new owners with a fantastic opportunity to breed quality coloured alpacas from celebrated white lines.

Dark coloured progeny from this bloodline are rare. He is producing strong, healthy cria in solid uniform colours from fawns through to true black and even modern grey. He has achieved for us exactly what we hoped he would. His progeny are mostly female with excellent temperaments, strong frames and dense stylish fleeces in rich solid colours. Ferry has produced mostly girls to date but one of his male progeny, Chalford Pluto is now standing in France as a breeding male.

Progeny fleeces are finer than the dams and are very organised with low SD and long staple lengths. Consistency of style is retained into third fleeces which remain heavy and stylish with excellent brightness.

The Ferryman’s 6th fleece remains fine and organised

As a mature working male  ‘Ferry’ is standing the test of time, a trait so important when choosing a stud male. His 5th fleece has stats of 22 micron with SD 5.1, CV 23.3, CF 92.8 and staple length 85cm. The density and character of his fleece is as you would expect and this is passed on to his cria. He will add density of bone and fleece to his progeny as well as fleece uniformity and length, brightness and style.

The Ferryman’s pedigree is packed full of great Australian names. His sire Cambridge Buckingham’s genetics are sourced from two of the finest elite ancestors. He was sired by Jolimont Commisario whose dam was Cambridge Trinity from NWA Ltd Ruffo. Ferryman’s dam, Eringa Park Caramela is an elite brown daughter of Caesar. Caesar was EP Cambridge’s only in house male. Selected in Peru in 2000, Caesar has never been available for outside services.

Ferryman was purchased from the Wellground Stud, a closed herd no longer trading, and has been resident at our bio secure farm ever since. He knows his job and is happy living with other working males. Along with the rest of our bio secure herd, he passed the Enferplex test in May 2016. He will be tested again before delivery. We are open to any testing and export can be arranged.

We have many photos and fleeces available so please get in touch and we will be happy to answer any questions. The fibre from Ferryman’s progeny has all been included in our exclusive Classics range of luxury fabrics.
