We offer alpaca training courses and workshops throughout the year. Our workshops cater for the new through to the experienced alpaca owner. Training courses and workshops include Introduction to alpaca days, basic and advanced husbandry and fleece preparation for shows and mills. We also cater for specific training on a 1 to 1 basis. This is often advanced husbandry using alpacas who boost confidence if required. Helen, an experienced alpaca owner/breeder and Registered Veterinary Nurse, delivers alpaca workshops on a regular basis. We can help you to;

choose the right alpaca(s) for your requirements
learn how to look after your alpacas in a respectful and knowledgable way
get the most from your fleeces
Alpaca training courses and workshops are designed to be friendly, practical, informative and fun. There are a maximum of 8 people per day as we feel this the best way to learn the most. We will provide you with course notes to take home and there will be plenty of opportunities for you to ask questions. We hold our workshops on a regular basis on both weekends and weekdays. We guarantee events will run even it is wet. We have extensive under cover facilities to keep you and the alpacas dry. All workshops include refreshments and lunch. Special diets can be catered for. Accommodation is available with us or locally if required. We hope you will enjoy looking around the farm and meeting our very friendly alpacas.
Workshop Cost: £60 per person (inc Vat).
Workshop times: 10.00am – 4.00pm approx.
Bio security 1/2 day workshop £30 per person (inc Vat).
Please note that we include all the information and training content from these workshops for anyone purchasing alpacas from us as part of our ongoing aftersales support. Also, workshop fees will be refunded if alpacas are subsequently bought from us.

Complete Husbandry For New Owners – 1 day Workshop
For owners who need to know more or new owners who just need to know. We are also happy to customise this day to suit your requirements.
Topics covered include: What is normal behaviour? Preventative health care and herd health planning. Nutrition. The breeding female. Farm design and biosecurity. Handling techniques. Husbandry tasks including feet trimming, drenches and injections (practical). Signs of ill health. First aid.

The Importance of Fibre – 1 day Workshop
We will show you how to assess a fleece, both on and off the alpaca and prepare fleeces after shearing for show and commercial use.
Topics covered include: What is a good fleece? Fleece definitions. Animal selection. Care of fleece. Shearing, skirting and processing. Showing fleece. Practical handling and assessment.
Skirting Fleeces for Show or Processing – 1/2 day Workshop
If you want to enter your fleeces in a Fleece Show but are not sure how, then this workshop is for you. Bring your show fleeces with you and we will teach you how to prepare your fleeces and why. Using a Fleece Score card you will then assess your own fleeces once skirted. Please ‘noodle’ your fleeces carefully prior to the day to get the best results rather than stuffing the blanket into a bag!
Practical Bio security – 1/2 day Workshop
A sensible. practical approach to designing a simple farm bio security plan. From buying alpacas, introducing them onto your land, managing visitors and other animals, perimeter fencing and animal movements, we will help you develop a checklist and show you simple, cost effective ways of managing your farm bio security.
